How You Can Get A Crown In A Day

What Is CEREC Technology?

CEREC is short for CEramic REConstruction. It refers to a type of CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Manufacturing) technology that’s used in dentistry. With CEREC, Dr. Leah Stempfle can use a computer and a special milling machine to design, create, and place dental crowns in just one appointment at Bespoke Dentistry. The Benefits Of Same-Day Crowns

Convenience is the biggest benefit of same-day crowns. Traditionally, crowns take at least 2 appointments over a period of 2-3 weeks. You also have to wear a temporary resin crown to protect your tooth between appointments. Temporaries can be prone to loosening, breaking, or even falling off of your tooth completely.

With a same-day crown, you can avoid all these complications, and get your new tooth in just a single, 1-2 hour appointment at Bespoke Dentistry. Dr. Stempfle will work closely with you to ensure a perfect fit, amazing results, and a long lifespan for your new crown. Same-day crowns offer excellent protection and are easier to fit into your busy schedule. Get in touch now to schedule your consultation in San Diego.

The CEREC Process

Preparing Your Tooth

To begin the CEREC process, Dr. Stempfle will clean your mouth and numb the treatment area. Next, she will numb the treatment area and use a dental drill to remove any unhealthy tooth material. She will trim your tooth to create a stable platform for your same-day crown.

Digital Impressions & Crown Design

Next, Dr. Stempfle will use a digital scanner to scan your mouth and create a 3D image of your tooth. She will use this scan and a special computer program to begin designing your new dental crown.

Building Your Porcelain Crown

Once Dr. Stempfle has completed your initial crown design, she will send it to our CEREC machine. She will load a block of tooth-colored porcelain into the machine, which uses a special robot to carve your crown. This only takes a few minutes.

Final Crown Fitting & Adjustment

After your crown is finished, Dr. Stempfle will retrieve it from the CEREC machine, then check the fit. She will make sure that it fits properly and make any necessary adjustments. She can even remake the crown if necessary. Once everything looks perfect, she’ll use special dental cement to permanently bond your crown to your tooth, and you’ll be sent home to enjoy your new smile. The entire process usually takes less than two hours at Bespoke Dentistry.

Why Do I Need A Crown?

Dental crowns are usually used to restore teeth with deep cavities, or to protect teeth after root canal therapy. They are also an ideal choice for repairing teeth after they’ve been chipped, cracked, or damaged. In some cases, Dr. Stempfle may also recommend crowns for cosmetic purposes, but this is less common, since treatments like veneers or teeth whitening are often a better alternative.

What Materials Can

CEREC Crowns Be Made From?

CEREC dental crowns are relatively new to dental work compared to traditional crowns. For that reason, there are not as many types when it comes to material selection. CEREC dental crowns can be manufactured using the following material options:
  • Ceramic CEREC Crowns Ceramics is one of the most popular materials used to create CEREC crowns. It has been widely used in the dentistry industry for several years, thanks to its reliability and strength, as well as the ability to perfectly match the patient’s tooth color. Ceramic CEREC crowns are incredibly durable and can last for decades with proper care and maintenance.
  • Composite Resin CEREC Crowns CEREC dental crowns can also be manufactured in composite resin. This material is increasingly becoming popular in the dentistry landscape. Composite resin comes in a white color that can be molded to appear discreet.
  • Porcelain Porcelain is widely used to construct CEREC crowns, and this is for good reasons. This material is highly durable, looks natural, and it’s biocompatible (metal-free), making it safe for all patients.

  • Zirconia CEREC dental crowns can also be constructed using Zirconia. Many dental specialists prefer to use this material because it is highly compatible, durable, and can withstand a lot of force.

Do CEREC Crowns Last as Long as Lab-made Crowns?

CEREC crowns and lab-made dental crowns are both durable dental restoration options. Lab-made crowns have an average lifespan of 10-15 years. On the other hand, CEREC crowns can last longer than 20 years. However, crowns’ lifespan greatly depends on oral health and maintenance needs.

Are CEREC Crowns Covered By Insurance?

If you’re considering same-day dental crowns, it’s understandable to be concerned about cost. Perhaps you may wonder if this treatment is covered by your dental insurance. The truth is that insurance can cover crowns only under certain circumstances.

If dental crowns are done for medical purposes, coverage is possible with a coverage cost of 50 to 80 percent. However, they might not be covered if it’s done for cosmetic reasons. The best way to know what’s covered and what’s not is to talk to your San Diego dentist to explain your dental insurance coverage in detail. The team at Bespoke Dentistry will gladly answer any questions you might have.
